This weekend I was talking with a friend when she mentioned that Dr. Dre was potentially about to lose millions of dollars because covid my shut down the Super Bowl halftime show and he is producing the show.
I had no idea he was even producing the halftime show. Keep in mind I heard this from a friend aka word of mouth.
Then I went online to get the rest of the story.
The point is simple social media and the internet gets lots of credit BUT many times it’s still good old fashion word of mouth that gets the ball rolling. People then search for more details online. It ALL works together as it should.
The second thing I thought interesting about the story is why would they only cancel the halftime show and not the entire Superbowl over covid. That does not make any sense.
I thought about it for a second and my marketing brain said this could be part of a campaign to draw major media attention while creating suspense about the Superbowl halftime show performers will it happen or not.
That is a pretty good story for the media to latch on to. A celebrity in this case Dr. Dre on the hook for millions of dollars for the Super Bowl halftime show. You just have to know more.
Orchestrating your own controversy is a powerful marketing strategy.
True or not it’s a strategy many have used in the past and will use in the future. Most importantly YOU can use the principle too.
Finally, Dr. Dre has some serious allegations about past abuse of wives and girlfriends. I would be shocked with this kind of attention about participating in the Super bowl Halftime Show if those claims didn’t pick up steam and bring those stories to the surface in a MAJOR way.
