Big No No!
This is a quick way to ruin future opportunities to get paid to speak I thought about this because a women ask me a question in a totally unrelated business but it applies as a speaker as well the women was asking me how to bypass the producer of an event and go directly to the client that was hosting the event she was trying to deal with the client directly if the producer found out he would most likely get rid of her because she is messing with his money.
The producer CREATED THE ENTIRE opportunity.
How does this apply to speaking? If you are working with a speaker bureau, they find the work for you and usually take about 30% of the total fee but they maintain the client which means you can not contact their client for work.
You show up virtually or in person and speak and go about your business. But you cannot try to sidestep the speaker’s bureau to avoid the 30 percent or get direct access to the client.
If you can get a speaker bureau to work with you it’s more then worth it but they should NEVER be a major source of your speaking income.
Here is the truth is easier to book your own speaking engagements and maintain the relationship with the client and control your destiny.
If you are working with a bureau you want to look at them as just another client.
